                      Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

                      Why choose us?
There are a number of whale shark operators along the Ningaloo coast so why would you choose Oceanwise over other operators? Primarily Oceanwise brings a fresh new perspective to the whale shark tourism industry and we embrace the concept of ecotourism in its purest form. At the heart of this will be providing a first class experience whilst immersing our customers in research and conservation of the marine environment. Our educational expeditions will provide interpretation from experienced guides and the chance to witness the ongoing research efforts of our team of marine researchers that have worked in the region for many years.

What does a typical Whale Shark Expedition include?
A standard itinerary includes being picked up from your accommodation early in the mroning and being taken to the vessel moored at the Tantabiddi Lagoon. From there you will get the chance to snorkel on the reef and prepare yourself for the experience of a lifetime. Once the whale sharks are located by aircraft and you are taken to its location, you will get the chance to swim with this magnificent creature. Each individual encounter with a shark can last up to an hour depending on the shark's movement and there is always the possibility that a second or third shark will be located. Once the shark encounter is over we will take you for some delicious lunch and the chance to snorkel at another of the select locations on the Ningaloo Reef. At the end of the day we will take you back to your accommodation where you can get some well deserved rest after one of the most memorable experiences you will ever encounter.

What do I need to bring?
Oceanwise Expeditions are fully catered for and we will also provide you with all the snorkelling equipment you need including a wetsuit, mask, fins and snorkel, but you are welcome to bring your own equipment if you would prefer. Bring a towel and something to keep you warm after being in the water.

                      Getting there?
Oceanwise Expeditions are based out of Exmouth on the North West Cape of Western Australia. You can find detailed information on travelling to Exmouth on the Exmouth Visitor Centre website.

                      What if I don't see a shark?
As part of our commitment to making sure that you get the chance to swim with a whale shark, we offer customers the chance to take a complimentary second tour, at the next available opportunity, in the rare event that you don't see a whale shark on your first trip.

How many people will be onboard the expedition?
In addition to our staff members, up to 20 people will be onboard at any one time and a maximum of 10 people in the water with the whale shark at once.
