                      Oceanwise Research Expeditions

Oceanwise specialise in developing research expeditions aimed at monitoring and conserving the unique habitats and wildlife of the World Heritage Listed Ningaloo Reef. Our research-based ecotours will provide you with an unparalleled adventure to witness first hand the amazing marine life of Ningaloo, including whale sharks, manta rays, turtles, dolphins, whales, dugongs and a multitude of colourful coral reef fish. You may also be involved in ongoing scientific research to help monitor and conserve the Ningaloo Reef for future generations. The Oceanwise team are dedicated to increasing awareness of the need for conservation and research, and at the same time bringing you a memorable and rewarding experience that will help protect the beautiful Ningaloo ecosystem.

Ningaloo Reef is one of the largest fringing coral reefs in the world at almost 300 km long and is home to a myriad of marine life including the gentle giant of the sea, the whale shark. As one of Australia’s national treasures, the Ningaloo Reef has recently been granted World Heritage Listing along with the spectacular and rugged Cape Range for their outstanding natural significance.

Join us on our Oceanwise Whale Shark Expedition for a once-in-a-lifetime experience to snorkel with and observe the ongoing conservation of these gentle giants.

The ECO Certification Program is a world first.  It has been developed to address the need to identify genuine nature and ecotourism operators.

The definition of ecotourism adopted by Ecotourism Australia is:

"Ecotourism is ecologically sustainable tourism with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas that fosters environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation".

Oceanwise was recently awarded the highest level of certification, Advanced Ecotourism:
Australia's leading and most innovative ecotourism products, providing an opportunity to learn about the environment with an operator who is committed to achieving best practice when using resources wisely, contributing to the conservation of the environment and helping local communities.
